Winter Weather in North Texas
Winters here are usually mild, but hard freezes do happen. During Winter Storm Uri in February 2021, DFW dropped to minus 2 degrees and stayed below freezing from the night of February 10 until the morning of February 19, according to the National Weather Service. The Texas Comptroller reported that nearly 70 percent of Texans lost power during the storm and that carbon monoxide poisoning was among the causes of death. Why does my furnace smell like burning dust?
Dust settles on the furnace over the summer and burns off the first time it runs. The smell should go away within an hour. If it doesn't, or if it smells electrical, call us.
Should my thermostat fan be set to On or Auto in winter?
Auto for most homes. With the fan set to On, the blower keeps running between heating cycles and the house can feel drafty.
