About North Richland Hills

North Richland Hills started as farmland. In 1950, Clarence Jones began turning his dairy farm into a housing development and named it after Richland Hills, the neighborhood to the south. Residents voted to incorporate on April 25, 1953, when the city had about 500 people. Today North Richland Hills has 69,917 residents, according to the 2020 census.

The city later took in the old railroad town of Smithfield. Rufe Snow Drive is named after Rufus Snow, a local farmer and county commissioner, and it follows an old country road that once ran north from Birdville. NRH2O Family Water Park opened in 1995 as the first city-owned water park in Texas.
