About Haltom City
Haltom City was founded in 1932 on land owned mostly by G.W. Haltom, a Fort Worth jeweler. The town grew along the highway that is now East Belknap St. It incorporated in 1949 as Haltom City Village and changed its name to Haltom City in 1950. About 46,000 people live here today, according to the 2020 census.
The area is older than the city. Birdville, which is now part of Haltom City, was named the first county seat when Tarrant County was created in 1849. According to the Handbook of Texas, Birdville lost the county seat to Fort Worth by seven votes in 1856. The Birdville Historical Society runs a museum on Walker St.

South Haltom City and Belknap St
This is the oldest part of the city. G.W. Haltom built the Haltom Theater at Belknap and Denton Hwy, and it opened on December 27, 1941. It is now a music and event venue. East Belknap is also known for its Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian restaurants and markets.
Birdville and Central Haltom City
City Hall and the public library are on Haltom Rd. Haltom High School traces its history back to Birdville Academy, which opened in 1858. The Birdville Cemetery on Cemetery Rd has graves dating back to 1852.
Diamond Oaks
Diamond Oaks Country Club was built on land that was once part of G.W. Haltom's ranch. The clubhouse opened in 1960 and the golf course in 1962.
North Haltom City and Loop 820
North of Loop 820, Haltom City runs up Denton Hwy alongside North Richland Hills. North Park on Denton Hwy reopened in June 2025 with a stocked fishing pond, a pier, trails and a disc golf course. Buffalo Ridge Park has about three miles of trails.
